Doc (my husband) has always been a talented woodworker. He was always making things such as jewelry boxes, furniture for the house, wall hangings, and he would also cut out various seasonal items that I would paint such as Christmas ornaments.

Well, when he decided to start turning wood, I thought…..”What now?” Since he is just so handy with woodworking tools, it didn’t take him long to teach himself how to turn wood. Of course, he had to buy a lathe (you need this large, extremely heavy machine to turn the wood) and the appropriate tools, such as gouges, scrapers, skews, and parting tools. He started out making pens, then went onto bowls, and then bottle stoppers. He turns not only wood that’s available in the United States, but also exotic woods from other countries. Some of these woods are beyond beautiful.

Everything he makes is so stunning that I decided it was time to start my own business with his handiwork - and that’s how Doc’s came into being. A number of people have asked me why I used Doc’s as a name for the business – that’s easy to answer…….my husband is a Doctor of Education, which is why he has Ed.D. after his name. A number of his friends call him Doc, Dr. John, or Dr. D – so I felt the business name appropriate.

WOW! Doc just came upstairs from his workshop to show me a piece of wood that was delivered a few days ago. It is gorgeous! (I’ve included a picture so that you could see it.) I wonder what he’s going to make with it. Check back by the end of this week to find out.

Hi Mel,
I'll check with the person who does my engraving. I know she does one line - not sure about a second. Most people will put their name on the pen, and their company name on the rosewood box that the pen comes in. Then there are those who put both their name and the company name on the box. You just need to be careful in choosing a wood because with any of the more exotic woods, you can't see the engraving. I'll check for you and let you know. Thanks, Marilyn

Marilyn,
Those are some of the best pens I have ever seen. I would like to order some of the pens. Is it possible to have my website engraved on them? www.LendersGreen.com and also my name.

Don't forget to tell them about www.DocsFineWoodcrafts.com, where people can see all the unique pens Doc has created.
